| What is Hadrah:
The literal meaning of the Arabic word is "Presence";
it is the unison movement of a group of devoted lovers
of God and his Prophet while chanting Allah's name and
attributes, as they chant there are usually reciters of
prophetic praise who sing in the background the praise of
Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). The reason it is called Hadrah
is because the participants are asking through this devotion
to be in the spiritual presence of Prophet Muhammad. It is
a practice which some of the 41 Sufi schools have incorporated
in their gatherings. Some of the Sufi schools practice a sober
approach in their gatherings of Zikr (Remembrance of God’s
names and attributes), other Sufi schools practice a more
ecstatic form of Zikr, and Hadrah is just that. It is usually
performed in the presence of a Sufi Shaykh who directs
and sometimes leads the Hadrah.
Naqshbandi Sufi schools has a more sober approach
(Silent Zikr or Zikr of the heart), but the current shaykh
of Naqshbandi Tariqah, Shaykh Nazim Adil Al-Haqqani
who is featured in this video, said that this is the time
when all Sufi schools and ways flow into one way, the
Muhammadan way, that is why Naqshbandi Haqqani
school incorporated all the different devotions and practices
of other schools. Mawlana Shaykh Nazim said: "If you do
something solely for the love of Allah and his prophet, it
will be accepted in the divine presence, even if it is to
dance or sing for such love..." This video was filmed
during a recent visit of Shaykh Hisham Kabbani to Lefke
Cyprus where His master and the master of all Naqshbandis
Shaykh Nazim Adil Al-Haqqani resides. During his stay Shaykh
Hisham along with the Naqshbandi ensemble members traveling
with him performed the Hadrah. Shaykh Nazim was so pleased
that he told Shaykh Hisham from now on he wants all Naqshbandi
followers every where to perform Hadrah after their weekly zikr;
After Cyprus Shaykh Hisham and the Naqshbandi ensemble traveled
to Germany, where they performed Hadrah with thousands of followers. |
