In this work, al-Ghazzali discusses vigilance and reckoning one's accounts with oneself. He includes a discussion of the vigilance of the truly righteous and how one punishes oneself as well as how one struggles or strives. Emphasis is placed on reproaching or reprimanding the self, a cognitive approach to moral healing. This is Book XXXVI of Part Four of the Alchemy of Happiness entitled the Deliverers. About the Author Al-Ghazzali (AD 1058-1111), the philosopher-theologian, is considered by many to be the greatest Muslim thinker after the great Companions. His life and thought played a major role in determining the ethical and spiritual values of medieval society and continues to be influential throughout the world today. |
